About the Role

The Senior Research Advisor (SRA) at the Society for UAP Studies (SUAPS) is a high-level advisory role designed to provide strategic research guidance and scientific oversight across the organization’s academic research initiatives. This position supports the development of SUAPS’ research agenda and helps ensure that projects meet the highest standards of academic rigor and integrity. The Senior Research Advisor plays a key role in shaping the intellectual direction of SUAPS and providing expert insight to the leadership team. The SRA would report to the Director of Research Programs, as well as directly to the Executive Director, as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on the development of SUAPS’ long-term research agenda and strategic priorities.

  • Support the design and review of research projects, ensuring adherence to best practices and scholarly standards.

  • Act as a liaison to external academic and research networks, contributing to the Society’s credibility and thought leadership.

  • Provide expert consultation on grant proposals, donor-funded research initiatives, and collaborative research development.

  • Assist in the evaluation of research program outcomes and impact.

  • Participate in scholarly events, lectures, panels, and advisory forums as a representative of SUAPS’ research leadership.

Desired Candidate Qualifications

  • Advanced academic credentials (Ph.D. or equivalent experience) in a field relevant to UAP Studies (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities).

  • Demonstrated expertise in interdisciplinary research design, strategic academic planning, or scientific consulting.

  • Strong understanding of academic publishing, peer review, and research ethics.

  • Experience contributing to or advising on institutional or nonprofit research programs.

  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and mentorship to research teams and program leaders.

Expectations

  • This is a volunteer advisory role, with engagement tailored to the advisor’s availability and SUAPS project needs.

  • Participation in quarterly research planning meetings, project review sessions, and advisory consultations as needed.

  • Opportunity for public-facing involvement, such as representing SUAPS in speaking engagements or academic panels.

  • Possibility of transition to a paid role, should funding allow.
