Anthropology & UAP: Questions of Humanity, Culture and the Unknown is an eight-week online course taught by anthropologist Maya Cowan.
The course examines how conversations surrounding unidentified anomalous phenomena are shaped by culture, history, and the people engaging with the subject. Students will consider not only what UAP may be, but also how people across different cultures discuss, conceptualize, and understand experiences with the unknown.
Topics include Indigenous knowledge, ontology and ways of knowing, religion, cultural metaphors, the politics of knowledge creation, emerging academic approaches to UAP, and what these questions may mean for humanity’s future.
The course consists of weekly readings, live online classes, and seminar-style discussions. All sessions will be recorded and made available to enrolled students after processing.
